SOLE CASTELLANO

As a researcher, I have been always interested in emerging digital technologies and new trends to enhance learning experiences. I am specialised in e-learning, Mobile, Social, Informal and Lifelong Learning. My research experience has provided me skills such as open-ended problem solving, critical and analytical thinking, managing discussions and defending my position, being proactive, academic writing, managing frustrations, giving and receiving feedback.

RESEARCH PROJECTS


An analysis of reasons for early retirement of academics at Higher Education Institutions in Spain (Brain Drain) (2013-2015). University of Seville. Project: Fuga de Talentos: Un Estudio Sobre los Motivos que han Condicionado a Profesores Universitarios con Experiencia a Abandonar la Profesión Docente. Principal investigador (PI): Cristina Mayor.


  • Broaden knowledge on burnout syndrome (psychological stress), work satisfaction, training needs.
  • Assisted with the development of a survey.
  • Analysed data to discover the level of burnout syndrome, dissatisfaction, etc.


Safety in Secondary Schools in Spain (2012). Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Project “La seguridad integral en los centros de enseñanza obligatoria en España. PI: Joaquin Gairin.


  • Coordinated field work in the south of Spain (Andalusian area)
  • Recruitment of experts in the field (inspectors, teachers, head of schools) and conducted interviews and discussion groups to provide training for health and safety legislation in schools, accidents prevention, classroom safety procedures, emergency plan, etc.


Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) (2011). University of Seville. Project: “El conocimiento profesional del profesor universitario: procesos de construcción y transferencia a la práctica docente”.  PI: Carlos Marcelo García.

  • Developed a survey to analyse how junior lecturers integrate their knowledge of subject matter, effective pedagogical methods and technology to enhance learning environments.
  • Conducted data collection using interviews, recording and observations.
  • Analysed data collected and created case studies to illustrate their reality.


The Social Network as a tool in teaching (2011). University of Seville.

Project: “La red social como herramienta de apoyo en la docencia”. 


  • Gained insights into Social networks for learning
  • Designed and developed a survey and analysed data collected (using SPSS and Microsoft Excel) to discover how social networks can enhance teaching and learning practices. This work has been published (see publication list).


E-learning in Andalusia. An analysis of e-learning profiles and their roles and competencies, good practices and new trends in e-learning. (2010).  University of Seville.

Project: “La Teleformación en Andalucía: Un Estudio sobre la Implantación, Metodologías Formativas, Competencias Formativas y casos de Buenas Prácticas de la Teleformación en Andalucía y Nuevos Desarrollos”. University of Seville. PI: Carlos Marcelo Garcia


  • Broaden my knwledge in e-learning and the key professional profiles to develop e-learning courses.
  • Developed survey for the analysis of competencies of each professional profile in e-learning: product manager, content expert, educator/pedagogue, instructional designer, graphic and multimedia designer, etc.

  • Obtained knowledge in the design of e-learning strategies.
  • Conducted research to analyse good practices on the design of e-learning strategies.
